And no I’m not talking about the girls who take nearly nude pictures of themselves with well placed console controls.

They can do whatever it is they do because they are of little importance to me.

I’m talking about the angry gamer girls who seem to hate anyone who isn’t just like themselves. The ones who go all crazy rage on any chick who has a picture of herself with a game control, a dorky DVD, or a D&D book and say, for one reason or another, that the girl in the picture cannot possibly be a gamer because of <insert random silly reason here>. And I totally blame these girls for the lack of more outspoken gamer/nerdy girls out there.

We’re going to call these chicks Rage-Demons or RD for short. Because that’s what we, here in the realm of nerd-dom, do. We take a page out of our Monster Manuals ( or Dragon Age fandoms ) and give people easily defined classifications so that we can spot them better.

What does the RD do that makes her so terrifying? Her special attacks include Girl Anger! It is often directed at sales ads, comic books, or even fellow gamer girls who are showing too much skin and are therefore pandering to the male clientele…this is especially annoying because they ignore any and all scantily clad males. Their secondary attack includes Hardcore Shipping, usually of the ‘slash’ variety.  They will squeal over some male/male pairing and cry over beautifully written fanfiction while casually ignoring the fact that if those same character were female…they’d call it sexism.

Would you like a ‘for instance’? Happy to oblige. Naruto fanart. Go to DeviantArt. You will find underage males in sexualised poses. Seriously. Or hey…how about those creepy images I stumbled across while looking for Jedi pictures for my table top game of Obi-Wan and a very young Anakin Skywalker. Comments beneath both of these pictures included that the pairings were so cute, and OTP, and shippable and a great many other verbs I care not to place here.

These same girls are the first to jump on any art drawn by men that shows large breasts or scantily clad armor. Or both.

It’s not any different. Really. You can make whatever claims you want…but it’s not any different.

Where will you find the RD? You’ll find her in your local comic/game store or nerd-related convention. She may be carrying a yaoi paddle or perhaps have her face stuffed into one of her rare (and therefore far better than yours) manga/comics. She will be wearing a super in depth cosplay of a character, possibly of her own making, and should you compliment her on it she will either tell you far too much information about it or get mad that you didn’t immediately recognize it from her ongoing online fiction.

Because if you were a REAL gamer.dork/nerd…you’d already know about it.

Why does this bother me? Because I happen to be a gamer girl and you chicks are giving me a bad name. People out there picture this hag like female with poor hygiene and her panties in a twist about EVERYTHING with this super super limited idea on what it means to be a Gamer. So here, let me explain what a female gamer enthusiast is really like.

I am a DM for an all girl gaming group. There are seven of us and we are a varied group of females with multiple interests and perspectives and fandoms. Some of us are tomboys. Some of us are girly. We are liberal, conservative, wiccan, christian, gun enthusiasts, seamstresses, bakers, tall short, big, and small.

We aren’t all the same.

So please….STFU you elitist bitches. Don’t sit there and say because a girl has taken a picture of herself with her favorite game controller or has done a super sexy cosplay of a character you think is sexism personified that she is somehow less a gamer than you are.
